Visit on 23 May 1922 by King Vittorio Emanuele III (1869-1947), Queen Elena (1873-1952), their daughter Princess Jolanda (1901-1986), the King's cousin Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia-Aosta, 2nd Duke of Aosta (1869-1931) together with many governmental, civic and military dignitaries including Luigi Facta (the Prime Minister), Roberto di Vito (the Navy Minister) and Antonio Mosconi (the highest civil authority in Venezia Giulia).

The mayor of Postojna, Fran Kutin, greeted the King in the Slovene language and his small daughter greeted the Queen. In accordance with an old Slovene custom they offered them bread and salt. The Queen, who had been born a princess of Montenegro, gently addressed individuals in Serbo-Croat and translated some of the answers into Italian for the King. After this official greeting the royal guests visited Postojnska jama where an enthusiastic crowd awaited them. In Kongresna dvorana school children sang Gregorčič's song "Back to the Mountain Paradise". Everyone there was surprised by the Kings' knowledge of karst and its characteristics. It is interesting to note the friendly relationship between the Italians and the local Slovenes, a situation which was to change when Mussolini replaced Facta in October of the same year. A bust of the King, to commemorate this visit as well as the one of 1919, was erected in Kongresna dvorana on 19 May 1923.
